Medicare in Eagle at a Glance
The Census Bureau's 2023 American Community Survey counts 31,490 Eagle residents, and 7,295 of them, 23.2%, are 65 or older. That is a much larger share than Ada County's 15.7%, and Eagle's median age of 46.1 is nearly eight years above the county's. Its median household income, $118,037, is also well above the county figure. When the budget allows, the question often shifts from the premium to keeping the doctors and specialists you already trust.

Eagle's Health Profile
An older town shows it in the health numbers. The CDC's PLACES estimates put Eagle above the Ada County figures for arthritis, high blood pressure and heart disease, while obesity is a little lower. Those are conditions that usually mean regular specialist visits, so the network question carries more weight here than the premium.
| Measure (adults) | Eagle | Ada County |
|---|---|---|
| Arthritis | 30.2% | 25.8% |
| High blood pressure | 34.9% | 31.2% |
| Coronary heart disease | 6.2% | 5.4% |

PPO plans (9)
A PPO lets you see providers outside the network, at a higher share of the cost, and does not normally require referrals. That flexibility matters most when your doctors are split across different health systems, or when you spend part of the year somewhere else.

HMO plans (6)
An HMO keeps your care inside one network and usually asks you to pick a primary care doctor who coordinates referrals. Premiums and copays tend to be the lowest of the plan types, and the trade is that out-of-network care generally is not covered except in an emergency.

HMO-POS plans (4)
HMO-POS is an HMO with a point-of-service option bolted on, so a defined set of services can be used out of network at a higher cost share. Which services qualify varies plan by plan, so it is worth reading that part of the benefit summary closely.

Hospitals Near Eagle
No Medicare-certified hospital in the CMS file has an Eagle address, so Eagle residents travel to Boise or elsewhere in the Treasure Valley for hospital care. Some health system campuses report to CMS under a parent hospital's certification number, so a facility you know may appear under its parent's name. The two large Boise hospitals and the Boise VA Medical Center, for veterans, are listed below.
| Hospital | City | Type | Emergency services | CMS overall rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| St. Luke's Regional Medical Center | Boise | Acute care | Yes | 5 of 5 |
| Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center | Boise | Acute care | Yes | 3 of 5 |
| Boise VA Medical Center | Boise | Veterans Affairs acute care | Yes | 5 of 5 |

Choosing a Plan in Eagle: What We Look At
CarrieAnne sorts every choice into six comparison areas. For Eagle clients these three usually carry the most weight.
- Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage. If you travel, split the year somewhere else or want any doctor who takes Medicare, a Medicare Supplement with a Part D plan is the path to look at first. If you are comfortable with a network, a PPO costs less each month. We price both, and Idaho's birthday rule can make changing supplements easier later.
- Your specialists. Arthritis and high blood pressure run above the county figures here, and those often mean an orthopedist or a cardiologist. We check each one by name against the 2027 directory.
- Your worst-case year. The in-network out-of-pocket maximum runs from $3,000 to $9,150 across Ada County plans. If a joint replacement or heart procedure is on the horizon, that number matters more than a $0 premium.

How many Medicare Advantage plans are available in Eagle for 2027?

Is there a hospital in Eagle?
Not in the CMS hospital file: no Medicare-certified hospital there has an Eagle address. Eagle residents use hospitals in Boise and elsewhere in the Treasure Valley, and health systems run clinics closer to home. We check your doctors, clinics and the hospital you would use against each 2027 plan network by name.
Should I choose a Medicare Supplement or a PPO in Eagle?
It depends on how much you value seeing any doctor who takes Medicare versus a lower monthly cost. A Medicare Supplement with a Part D plan lets you see any provider that accepts Medicare, nationwide. A PPO has a network but also pays something out of network, and 9 of the 9 Ada County PPOs have a $0 Part C premium for 2027. We price both paths for you side by side.

If you have a Medicare Supplement, Idaho's birthday rule can give you a window each year to switch.
